The capital of the Province of Bahia , renowned as “land of happiness”, was founded in 1549 by the Portuguese who arrived there. It was the first Capital of Brazil. Salvador is a mixture of history and nature, with a vast wealth of music, colours and dance. Today the city is divided into two parts; the lower city, at sea level, with the port and commercial area, where visitors will find a wide supply of local handicrafts at the Model Market which is also the best place to enjoy “Capoeira”, martial art developed by black Brazilian slaves, it is considered folklore tradition.
The upper city, can be reached on foot or by famous elevator Lacerda. At this part of the city we can find governmental buildings, residential areas, and many museums. Also great variety of hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. Apart from all city attractions, the State of Bahia offers real ecological paradises a short distance from Salvador, such as Praia do Forte and Costa do Sauipe, that can be combined in many ways.
