Down River to Puerto Natales
Duration: Full day
This excursion begins in Torres del Paine National Park, in the area of Rio Serrano. Here we will take the zodiac to go down river and observe unknown and untouched areas of Torres del Paine and Bernardo O’Higgins National Parks, such as Tyndall and Geike glaciers. After three hours sailing we will arrive in Hostería Monte Balmaceda located in front of the homonymous mountain, our place for lunch and a break. After lunch a walk for 20 minutes is held bordering the calving lake originated by the melting of Serrano Glacier toward its base. During the walk we will watch different species of plants and bushes such as Coigue, Canelo, Lenga, Ñire, Chilco, murtilla, chaura and Calafate among others.
Afterward we will take the main boat to go to Puerto Natales through the waters of the Ultima Esperanza inlet. Its name is owed for being the “Last hope” to find the Strait of Magellan in 1557, for an expedition that came from the Pacific Ocean. The city of Puerto Natales has a population estimated in 20.000 people and the main activities are fishing, sheep farming and tourism.
