City Tour Colonia

Country Gate: We enter the historical centre through the old gate of entry to the city, between recovered remains of the wall that at the end of the seventeenth century defended portuguese and spanish who alternated in the colony's government. We walk through its cobbled streets and squares, and discover not only museums but also renowned artists' and artisans' ateliers.
Street of Sighs: this street consists of a series of portuguese constructions with predominance of pink and yellow colours, that alternate with restrained spanish houses. The beauty of this street and its surrounding arouse romanticism.
Lighthouse: Built on the ruins of the Convent of San Francisco Xavier in the middle of nineteenth century, during night its lights advise navigators that they are approaching Colonia. Those who climb up will have a sight of Plaza Mayor with buildings of the time now turned into museums.
Blessed Sacrament Basilica: in the so called Plaza de Armas, since 1810 stands the most important catholic temple in the city, Spanish architect Toribio gave it its current appearance, but the stones at the entrance prove that the contruction was originally portuguese.
Royal of San Carlos and Rambla: there are cute spas on the shores of de la Plata river, being Real de San Carlos the innovating one. To get there we will travel along the river drive and get to know the history of visionary Nicolás Mihanovich, who created a superb bullring; an elegant casino hotel; a basque ball pediment, a racecourse and a small train station.
