Harberton Ranch
Code: USHTOUR06
Duration: Full dayVisit the oldest ranch in Tierra Del Fuego, donated by the national government to the first white settler of Ushuaia, Reverend Thomas Bridges. At present, the ranch does still belong to the Bridges family descendant from the first European colonists of Tierra Del Fuego.
We depart from Ushuaia, northwards by NR 3, bordering Mount Olivia. We travel through a valley, to the east, where we can see peat, rivers and lagoons, as well as rich vegetation. The road gets narrow, with innumerable curves and great slopes; they are 30 km to Puerto Almanza. Upon arrival, as if one rises the curtain, we will appreciate a beautiful coastal landscape, the Beagle Channel of intense blue waters and on the South coast Port Williams (Chile), located in the Navarino island. We arrive at Harberton Ranch. The main house is located in a protected bay.
The farmhouse remains untouched from the old days, built in wood and metal roofing; the garden stands out for it gathers the majority of the autochthonous flora species and we will be conducted on a visit throughout the building, to learn about the past and present activities that take place in the ranch. After the visit, we will enjoy a delicious tea with home-made biscuits. We begin the return journey to the city afterwards.
